Vancouver May 21, 2010: As an authority in the poker industry, premier online gaming site GR88.com (pronounced Great Eight .Com) announced today their prediction for who will be at this year’s World Series of Poker final table.
Starting May 27th, the world’s best poker players will gather in Las Vegas to compete for 57 gold bracelets and their place in poker history. Last year over 60,000 players vied for the bracelets and this year’s tournament promises to be even more heated.
GR88.com has made a list of the eight most remarkable poker players to watch (and place your bets on) during the six weeks of pure poker excitement.
Phil Ivey
As one of the most famous American poker talents, professional player Phil Ivey has won seven World Series of Poker bracelets and one World Poker Tour title. With an impressive roll of awards and outstanding winnings, Ivey is expected to make quite a few leader boards throughout this year’s competition.
Allen Cunningham
After dropping his studies in civil engineering at UCLA to pursue a career in poker, Cunningham has jumped from one tournament to another, winning over $10,386,211. In 2005, this player earned the title ESPN/Toyota Player of the Year and was voted the Best All Around Player under 35 by his fellow professional poker players. As of last year, Cunningham has won five WSOP bracelets and over $6,717,791 in WSOP earnings.
Chuck Myers
This semi-professional poker player is popular on tables throughout the Web where he plays under the name of WizardMickey. Originally from Jacksonville, Fl., Myers has had a variety of accomplishments, including live wins in the 2007 ESPN Radio Shootout and the Easter Tournament at the Beau Rivage Casino. He has also played in World Series of Poker No Limit Events in Las Vegas 2006 and 2007.
Young V Phan
Raised in Vietnam under humble conditions, this poker pro moved to the U.S. at the age of 19. Upon graduating from college in San Diego, Calif., Phan discovered his passion for poker as he supervised card rooms at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, Calif. Without his family’s approval - since poker is an illegitimate sport in his home country - Phan followed his dream and started a career as a professional player. To this day, Phan has won over $380,000 at the WSOP.
Phil Hellmuth
This American professional player is notorious for his record of 11 World Series of Poker bracelets, as well as for his “poker brat” temperament. As a member of the Poker Hall of Fame, Hellmuth has participated in 41 WSOP final tables – breaking another record among his fellow players. Recently, Hellmuth authored the book Deal Me In: 20 Of The World's Top Poker Players Share The Heartbreaking and Inspiring Stories of How They Turned Pro.
Patrik Antonius
A top-ranked poker player, this Finnish professional is also a model and a former tennis player and coach. During last year’s WSOP, Antonius was not able to enter the Main Event, leaving fans even more anxious for the 2010 tournament. Antonius also plays in some of the highest profile online tournaments, where he has won prizes of over $320,000.
Daniel Negreanu
Romania-born Daniel Negreanu has made his name in the poker community at the age of 30 for being the youngest WSOP bracelet winner in history – a record held by him until 2004. During the same year, the player was also awarded as Cardplayer's Player of the Year. As one of the most successful poker tournament players, Negreanu has conquered two World Poker Tour Championship titles and four WSOP bracelets. He is ranked second in the all-time career earnings list behind Phil Ivey, and stars the poker game show Million Dollar Challenge.
Barry Greenstein
Professional poker player Barry Greenstein is remarkable for his passion for philanthropy. The Chicago-based talent is one of the few – if not the only – player to donate all his profits from tournaments to charities, primarily Children Incorporated. Such goodwill earned him the nickname of “Robin Hood of poker”. At the 2008 WSOP, Greenstein cashed in six events for a total of $768,461. Greenstein has also won two World Poker Tour (WPT) titles. In 2005, Greenstein wrote a book titled Ace on the Rive.
